How reviews work

Who can leave a review

• Only people who bought the item on Shopper District can review it.
• For items that are posted or collected, reviews open once the seller has sent the item or you've collected it. For digital downloads, they open as soon as you've paid.
• You can leave one review per item, and change it at any time from the listing.
• Shop owners can't review their own listings.
• We email you once, a few days after your order is sent (or after you buy a download), to ask for a review.

What a review shows

• A star rating from 1 to 5, and your words if you add any.
• Your first name and the first letter of your surname, and the date.
• The shop can post one public reply under each review.

How ratings are worked out

• A listing's rating is the average of its reviews.
• A shop's rating is the average of every review of all its listings.
• Reviews hidden for breaking the rules below aren't shown or counted.
• We show every other review, good or bad, newest first. Sellers can't edit, reorder or remove reviews, or pay to do so.

What isn't allowed

We hide reviews that:

• are fake: written by the shop owner, their family, staff or anyone acting for them, or about something the reviewer didn't really buy;
• were given in return for payment, a discount, a refund, free items or any other reward;
• are offensive, abusive, threatening or discriminatory;
• include someone's personal information, such as a phone number, address or email;
• aren't about the item or the buying experience, or are spam or advertising.

Sellers must not offer anything in return for a review, or ask buyers to change or remove one. Buying from a shop in order to review it, or reviewing a shop you're connected to, counts as a fake review.

How we keep reviews genuine

• Only verified buyers can review, and only once the item has reached them.
• Anyone signed in can report a review with the Report link under it.
• We check every report against these rules. If a review breaks them we hide it and show the reviewer and the shop why; if it doesn't, it stays up.
• We never remove a review just because it is negative.
• We may suspend accounts that post, buy or arrange fake reviews.

For sellers

• You'll find every review of your listings in Shop Manager under Reviews, where you can post one public reply to each.
• Keep replies polite and never include the buyer's personal details.
• If you think a review breaks these rules, report it and we'll check it.
